I was just having dinner at Din Tai Feng when I overheard a conversation from the table next to us. Apparently, there was a foreigner and his Singaporean friends. He asked about our Hokkien language and was astonished to find out that his friends did not know how to speak despite it being their dialect. One of them even said that this language is going to die in Singapore. I found his words hurtful and disappointing, but I do not disagree with him actually. Shall we be more open to speaking dialects? Yes we should!

I meet my Hougang Brother today!
