The controversial talk of town revolves around the infamous Miss Low (below) for months since she won the title of Miss Singapore World 2009.
It must be hard having to be on the headline of the main media platforms in Singapore, for the wrong reasons that is. I am glad she appeared strong and positive throughout the recent interviews, and not giving up on her dreams. In a particular interview with CNA, I thought the reporter was a little too harsh on her. It reminds me of the interview on Channel 8 few years back, where Zhen Yue Li kept firing arrows on China-born Taiwanese celebrity Xia Yi. This also reminded me of Taiwanese host Zhen Guo Cheng commenting that the local media are starting to become "unfriendly" like those in Taiwan.
Being a beauty queen here has never been easy. Remember Miss Sharon Lee from Miss Singapore Universe a few years back? Her answer as to what she will do if she is lost in a jungle- "dismantle the handphone so as to send out radiation to get rescue" made headlines throughout the media for a period of time. And to the few of my close friends who took part in pageants in recent years, they too faced criticisms from different people. No wonder there seem to be a fall in the number of beautiful people joining pageants.
